I’ve heard something more than anything else this summer.

Not “I don’t have time.”

It’s been:

“Paul, I’m just tired.”
“I feel lazy.”
“I can’t seem to get motivated.”
“I know I need to get back, but I’m just not feeling it.”

I get it.

Summer throws everything off. Vacations. Kids. Family obligations. Weddings. Injuries. Health concerns. Late nights. Different eating habits. Life happens.

And before you know it, one week away becomes three. Three becomes six. Then the thought of getting back feels harder than the workout itself.

After nearly 30 years of coaching women, here’s what I’ve learned:

You can’t always wait until you feel ready. Sometimes you just gotta show up.

I was talking to Clark, one of our trainers, the other day. He told me he really wasn’t feeling his workout. He didn’t have the energy or motivation.

But he started anyway.

A few exercises in, he began feeling better. By the time he was finished, he was glad he did it.

That’s how it works more often than people realize.

We think motivation creates action. A lot of the time, action creates motivation.

I’ve experienced it myself this year.

Because of my own injuries, there have been exercises I simply couldn’t do. I had to cut my training intensity almost in half and eliminate movements that bothered me.

But I didn’t stop moving.

Sometimes I trained. Sometimes I did rehab. Sometimes I walked. Sometimes I simply did what my body allowed me to do that day.

I kept showing up.

And that’s important because showing up doesn’t mean giving 100% every single workout.

If you’re dealing with an injury, showing up might mean rehab.

If you’ve been away all summer, showing up might mean starting with two workouts instead of five.

If you’re exhausted, maybe you train at 60% today.

That’s okay.

Something beats nothing.

The same goes for your nutrition.

You don’t need some crazy September diet. Get back to the basics. Protein. Vegetables. Water. Regular meals. Less snacking and processed food.

We’ve seen it during our challenges hundreds of times. Within the first week, people start telling us:

“I have more energy.”
“I’m sleeping better.”
“I already feel different.”

Nothing magical happened.

They simply started taking care of themselves again.

With the kids heading back to school and routines starting to normalize, September gives us an opportunity to reset.

But here’s the important part:

You’re not starting over. You’re coming back.

You’ve done this before.

You know how good it feels when you’re training consistently. You know how much stronger you feel. You know what happens to your energy and confidence when you start taking care of yourself again.

So don’t wait for Monday.

Don’t wait until you’re motivated.

Don’t wait until life is perfectly organized.

Book the workout. Walk through the door. And show up.

We’ll help you with everything after that.

You just gotta take the first step.
